We will survive the zombie apocalypse

Abuse survivors are very aware of danger. In fact, we’re hyper focused on it. It leads to a lot of over reactions. But …. the zombies aren’t going to bite us in the butt. I’m not a fast runner. If you are, more power to you! It won’t matter because I started running at least 10 minutes before you even got started. When I was earning my bachelor’s in psychology, I did a fair number of research projects. That was the main focus of the program I was part of. I also took a minor in children’s advocacy for obvious reasons. Since I wanted to go to graduate school, I did two semesters of independent study. During that time, with the oversight of a professor, I designed and carried out a research project. To get credit for it, I had to collect data, analyze it, then write a paper that I could present at two research conferences. That project combined my two areas of study.

My project was designed to determine if there was a correlation between the degree of abuse a person had suffered in the first eighteen years of their life and how they responded to outside stimuli. In particular, I measured how quickly people responded to positive stimuli, neutral stimuli, and negative stimuli. I used a method called the Stroop Test. It’s a method with a large body of evidence behind it. I compared that to the participants Adverse Childhood Experiences Score. Another widely proven tool that I will post more about in the future. If you want to read more about it now, I have included resources at the end of this discussion. I will also put that link in the Reference Material section of this website along with the text of my de-identified paper.

Of the three categories of stimuli, two did not have a statistically significant correlation with the participants ACE Score. But one did. Can you guess which one? Can you? Of course you can! Because it’s common sense. Those of us who have a high ACE Score are so much faster at responding to negative stimuli! Hence my entire argument about us being the ones most likely to survive the zombie apocalypse! BAMB! Your welcome! Hope that improves your day.
